GROW model coaching questions
The GROW Model

The GROW model is probably the best known session structure model. Initially developed by Graham Alexander and popularised by Sir John Whitmore (Whitmore, 1992) the GROW model breaks a coaching session into four interrelated phases: Goals; Reality; Options; and Wrap-up (sometimes called Will or Way forward).
The GROW model forms the basis of most other coaching models and demonstrates a framework for a coaching conversation. As part of our leadership skills, coaching can be carried out formally or informally (as part of a conversation) and the GROW model can assist that conversations structure.
Whilst we don't move systematically though the model if the conversation explores the main areas then the chance of empowerment of the other person and option building is greatly enhanced.
